#TBT and #FBF to when I just started taking art classes ("Foundations of Art")
I. Quality (5)
II. Concentration (12) with commentary
III. Breadth (12)
For Quality, you send in 5 original pieces no larger than 18x24 (with or without the mat) and get them evaluated. Scores are available July 2015 ish. (Which unfortunately is when I'm not home, and neither is my dad...who is the only one in the country then...)
Concentration is the most important part (hence the title).
Commentary:
What is the central idea of your concentration? (500 characters maximum)
The central idea of my concentration is "broken stream of consciousness". This is a clear theme in my work because throughout the past five years, I have struggled with clinical depression and psychosis. For the longest time, I thought these mental diseases defined me. As the years went on, I realized it was merely a diagnosis and that I could conquer my psychological battles.

How does the work in your concentration demonstrate the exploration of your idea? You may refer to specific images as examples. When referencing specific images, please indicate the image numbers. (1350 characters maximum)
In images 1-2, a humble beginning of my diagnostics is portrayed. When I was first diagnosed with depression and psychosis, I felt no one could understand my disease and that anyone who tried to never would. I then realized I wasn't alone in this process--many adolescents around me were internally struggling as well. In images 3-5, I began to cope with illnesses through art. It came to me that finishing these pieces left me in peace and relief, opposed to my anxiety and confusion from before. Images 6-9 express my progression from defining myself with medical terms. "Psychosis" and "depression" no longer described the person I truly was. Images 10-12 conclude my journey of the past four years of clinical illness. In image 10, I can walk with my brother on "the edge of this world". In image 11, I printed "broken and scattered" pieces of my past. In image 12, I found music as a refuge, with sentimental items by my side.

Breadth is anything that doesn't fit into concentration, so it's pretty simple. Mine was easy to do since my concentration was so deep and meaningful; I basically chose "meaningless" pieces for my breadth since I didn't even have to write a commentary :D
